Last week, we discussed how Exercise helps to prevent back pain. This week, we are going to discuss how DIET affects back pain.
The kind of food we eat matters a lot because it can directly impact our spines. Eating the right kinds of food that includes the correct amount and variety of vitamins and minerals will help to prevent and reduce back problems by nourishing the bones, muscles, discs and other structures in the spine so that they are strong enough to support the body and to carry out their other functions.
To prevent back pain, we need to cut down on the junks and fast foods we eat and eat more of Power foods. Power foods are high in complex carbohydrates and low in simple sugars and fat and contain an adequate amount of protein. They help to keep our muscles constantly supplied with the fuel they need to maintain the support and the protection of our spines.
The list of these pain-fighting foods that should be included in our diet daily ranges from Fresh Fruits and vegetables such as red grapes, oranges and cherries, to Herbs and Spices such as ginger and turmeric, to Fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, to Whole-grain cereals and Whole-wheat breads, Soy products and even Coffee.
Multivitamins and Minerals Supplements such as Calcium, Vitamin D, B-complex and Omega-3s can also be taken daily to improve the condition of the spine.
Furthermore, we need to limit our intake of soft drinks, candy bars, ice cream, cookies, and other sweets and also take smaller, more frequent healthy meals rather than two or three large ones.
